BOAT ACCIDENT.— THANKS.

To the Editor of the Daxlt Souteeeh Cross. Sib, — As one of thosQ concerned' iij. the' boat accident of yesterday, I trust you will not consider it trespassing upon your space if I desire to give expression to my gratitude to those who were instrumental in snatching me, with two others, from the very jaws of death. Of Mr. G-wynneth, the district surveyor, I cannot speak too highly. To the rapidity which he got together his boat's crew, and the happy selection of that crew, our preservation may be attributed. None but those acquainted with the bar at this place can form an idea of the many difficulties besetting our rescue. To Messrs. J. Cox, Bonatus Callaghan, Thorn, Sheldon, Price, and Charles Litchfield, the parties manning the boat, I return my thanks, and desire them to believe that I feel myself to be bankrupt in words to express my deep, sense of obligation to them for their noble conduct. — I am,*&c., r ' ' • ' - Opotiki, April 27, 1867. John E. Baines.
