Sir, — I have great pleasure in informing you that his Excellency the Goremor hat reoeived a despatoh, oopy of which I enclose, from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, stating that her Majesty had signii fied her intention of conferring the Victoria Gross on yourself, for your gallantry at the skirmish (at Mangapikq, in February, 1864. I have to convey to you his Excellency's congratulations, in which his Ministers cordially join, on your reoeiving toil illustrious distinction, which your conduct on the occasion referred to has deservedly earned. The decoration has been forwarded to the officer commanding her Majesty's troops in New Zealand for presentation to you. — I hare, Ac, T. M. Hi.ULTAIN. Major Heaphy, Y.C., Ac, Auckland.
