NON-PAYMENT OP CITY BATES, There were three cases of persons summoned for non-payment of city rates — Henry Jacobs, £8 Os. lOd. ; Mrs. P. Lery, £3 6s. Bd. ; Burden »nd Twohey, 12s. 6d.— but they were postponed until Friday. This was all the butiness before the Court.
Thk Paris Exhibition.— The Gazette dcs JEtran,' gert states that certain speculators have offered to give the Government £390,000, half down, the other half on March. 31— the lat of April is irrevocably fixed for the opening of the " Oval Palace'^— f or their receipts for entrance to the * Exhibition. The commissioners to whom the question was referred have refused the offer, which shows clearly what a profit they expect. The calculation of the makers of the offer was that 2,000,000 natives and 6,000,000 foreigners will visit the Champjde Mars, and pay one franc a head. Six millions of strangers delivered over to the tender mercies of the Parisian despoiler ! Why, if they only average a Napoleon ahead, it wdl be very pretty plunder. > I hope the whole army of martyrs will not march in together, or they will | have to sleep in those stone quarries ia which the police are always arresting homeless vagabonds.— I Pani Correspondent of the Ttbgwjihi « „ :
