RUSSELL. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) March 25.
A raw days since, in the abaence of Mr. and Mrs. Jameson from their home at "Whang*?, 'it 'wu broken into, and wearing apparel to the value of £20 stolen. The thief has got off olear so far, but I heartily hope he may yet be caught. Last week two drunken Maoris quarrelled and fought, and one kicked the other in the abdomen. It was a serious kick, for in two or three days tbe man died. The other one hag taken himself off nobody knows where, and at present nobody seem* to care where, for no search has been made i6r him. | I fancy the deceased man isn't much mourned : he w,«s a troublesome cantankerous fellow-, and probably, if his people spoke tbeir real sentiments, they might .say« • Good riddanoe ;" and they know the , other did not intend to kill him. , On ' Saturday the ' General Cameron* left for Auckland, but when off Wangaruru ahe was obliged to put baok j the >ea was tremendous, and the wind, , a dead i muzzier. She came into harbour yesterday morning with both her jibs hanging in tatters.
