The -Moulin, for Otago, was off Dungeness on September Bth. The Parramatta, for Sydney, sailed from Plymouth on September 15. Messrs. 3erbaulet and Co.'s circular, dated Rotterdam, the 20th Augui-t, states that the Veoruit, f<.r Melbourne, was detained by westerly winds in the ontport of Zierikzee till the 13th, on which day she finally put to sea. The Bilderdijk, for Melbourne and Sydney, would be despatched on the 31st. Tbe John Duthie, for Sydney, and the Mermaid, for New Zealand, were off the Start on September 23rd. The ship Maori, Captain Roberts, is the only vessel that sailed for Auckland during the month. She left Gravesend on the Bth September, but in consequence of boisterous weather and foul winds was only reported off Portsmouth on the 26th September. A manifest of her cargo will be found elsewhere. The Ruahine arrived at Panama from Wellington on the 21st August, and mails and passengers were transhipped to Atrato, which reached Southampton on the 12th September. Messrs. Walter Coombes, H. and R. Sayce, and J. Cox were passengers from Auckland. The chartered transport Holmsdale, 1,237 tons, Captain W. J. Ferris, belonging to Messrs. Shaw, Lowther, and Maxton, from Auckland, New Zealand, arrived at Plymouth on the 6th September, after a very rapid run of 79 days. She brings the head-quarters of the 40th Regiment and 16 officers — viz., Lieutenant-Colonel L. L. K. Nelson, Captain and Brigade-M»jor G. O. Bowdler ; Captains N. Armstrong and J. S. Mansergh ; Lieutenants A. M. M. Moller, M. Morphy, B. Stack, and C. F. Hulme; Ensigns F. H. King and J. D Gregson ; Adjutant J. T. Whelan, Paymaster H. C. Ryder, Surgeon G. W. Peake, wife, and two children ;ChaplainL. Parsly, and Deputy-Purveyor Adamson. Mr, Pring, purveyor, died ou the passage. Mrs. Hassard, widow of Colonel FTassard, who was shot in the New Zealand war, is also a passenger. The total of the troops is 16 officers, 3 ladies, 29 children, 229 non-commissioned ofticeis and men, 31 women, 60 children, aud 2 officers' servants. The Holmsdale sailed June 17, rounded Cape Horn on the 30rh, and crossed the line on the 47th day out. Off the Cape several large icebergs were observed. This ship left England seven months and fifteen days since ; she went to Melbourne, thence to Auckland, and back to Plymouth. The Surat, with the light portion of the New Zealand mail, vi& Suez, arrived at Marseilles on the 13th. The letters were delivered in London on the 15th. The letters and papers via Panama, which were brought to Southampton by the Royal West Indian mail steamer Atrato, were delivered on the morning of the 13th. The following vessels have left London during the month :— The Glenmark and Mermaid for Canterbury, the Moulin and Celaeno for Otago, the Maori for Auckland, the Water Nymph for the Bluff, the Biitish Merchant for Nelson, and the Southern Cross for Wellington, all despatched by Messrs. Shiw, Savill, and Co The Mermaid takes a large party of assisted immigrants, selected by Mr. Marshman, for the Canterbury Government. Miss Rye has sent out from Liverpool, by the Government emigration ship Red Jacket, 100 selected young women, the majority of whom are English, a considerable number Irish, and a few Scotch, to Melbourne. They are all girls qualified bj physical health and moral character to take positions in domestic life as servants of various ranks when they reach the colonies A fine iron ship, named the Superb, has been lauuched from the yard of Messrs. Green, of Blackwall. The Superb is the first ship that the firm have built for themselves since they have commenced iron shipbuilding, for which they have a most complete and efficient plant. She has been built under special survey, with all the most lecent improvements, and her dimensions are : — Length between perpendicular?, 220 feet ; breadth, extreme, 38 feet; depth of hold. 22 feet 10 inches; bin then in tons, 1,514 62-94. She is intended for the colonial and India trade. The Superb will carry a caisjo probably of 2,500 tons ; she was intended to make her fiist voyage to Melbourne under the command of Captain Jones, and was appointed to sail on the 6th of October.
