OTAHUHU PUBLIC HALL.

The annual general meeting of the shareholders of the Otahuhu Public Hall Company (Limited) was held on Monday evening, shortly before eight o'clock, in the Hall, for the purpose of hearing the financial statement, and electing directors and officers for the ensuing year; There was a numerous attendance of shareholders. Mr. W. R. Raithby, Chairman, of Directors, presided. The Chairman, after reading|the notice published in the Daily Southern Cross convening the meeting, said the term of office of the Directors had now almost expired, and they thought it right to call the shareholders together to hear the financial statement and what had been done during the past twelve months. He Hoped the shareholders would be satisfied with the statement to be laid before them. The necessity of such a fine building to meet the growing wants of Otahuhu was generally admitted. Many of the shareholders did not expect that they would receive a large dividend for some years to come. The hall had paid very well during the past year, although the dividends would not go to the shareholders. The money had been expended in procuring furniture for the hall, which, expenditure would no doubt meet their approval. He would now call upon the Secretary to read the financial statement. (Applause.)

Fe explained that the shares amounted to £750, whereas they ought to have had 200 shares, when the amount would havebeen £1,000. If that had been the case, they could have cleared all their expenses. It was, however, better for the shareholders. Although they would not obtain, a dividend this year, there was no doubt the hall would ultimately pay. They would only be in debt £3 12s. lid. in respect to the land. He thought, considering the dulness of matters generally and the state of trade in Otahuhu, and there being few troops there, it spoke well that they had done so well. It was a sufficient proof that the hall would pay, and as to its necessity there could not be a second opinion. (Applause.) ! A lengthened discussion took place with reference to the auditing of the accounts. It was stated that the Directors had appointed Mr. Williams their I Auditor for the past year, who had examined the accounts and found them correct. Mr. Gordon had been appointed auditor for the shareholders, but had declined to act. On the motion of Mr. King, seconded by Mr. Ack.la.nd, Mr. Luke was appointed auditor to examine the accounts.

APPOINTMENT OP DIRECTORS. The Chairman said the next business before the meeting was the election of two Directors for the ensuing year in the room of Messrs. Eaitbby and Fisher, who retire. A ballot was taken, Messrs. Williams and Gordon acting as scrutineers, which resulted in the election of Mr. William Sutherland and Mr. Joseph Vercoe.

seckbtaky's salary. The question as to the salary to be paid to the Secretary to be appointed was next considered. The different sums of £20, £15, and £10 were severally proposed, and it was agreed that the salary should be £20 per annum.

APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY, Mr. Fisher proposed that Mr. King should be re-elected as Secretary. Mr. James Runciman seconded the motion, and referred to the active exertions made by Mr. King to further the interests of the company. Several other shareholders also spoke in high terms of the services rendered by Mr. King. The motion was unanimously carried.

APPOINTMENT OF TREASURER. On the motion of Mr. James Rtjnciman, seconded by Mr. Greenwood, Mr. John Gordon was uuanimouslv elected Treasurer for the ensuing year.

ELECTION OF AUDITOB. On the motion of Mr. Fisher, seconded by Mr. Gordon, Mr. Luke was unanimously elected Auditor for the shareholders for the ensuing year. The Directors appoint their own auditor. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the business of the meeting, at half-pasfe ten o'clock.
