The Panama Steamers. — The following consolatory paragraph appears in the Wellington Independent of tbe 27th ult. :— " We understand that not the slightest fear need be entertained of any accident having occurred to the s.s. Kuahine. Every effort has been made to secure a superabundant supply of coal at Panama, but during the late gales off the Australian cnasb two vessels, with their entire cargoes, were lo&fc, and two had to put back in conseqence of the severity of the weather. It is, therefore, thought probable that she has been detained for want of coal, and may possibly have had to go to Callao for a supply. This, however, will not occur again, as the mail steamers will not only have more time at Panama, but large relays of coals will have arrived, some 5,000 tons being either there or afloat, atid periodical shipments are constantly taking place."
