AUCTION SALES.

Messrs. Hunter and Way held their monthly catfclesales on Wednesday at Papakura. Milch cows seemed much in demand, aud satisfactory prices were obtained. The attendance of persons was large, and the amount of stock offered for competition of very good quality. A marked improvement has been noticeable in the business done during the last two market days, both as to number of stock and prices realised. Messrs. C. Arthur and Son held a sal© of drapery, ready made clothing, bouts, and ahoes, &c, on August 2, atfchcirmart, to close consignments. The following quotations were realised : — fclastic-side boots, 4s. to s*. 3d. ; knee boots, 3s. to -is. 2d. ; men's vests, 3s. 6d.; overalls, patent leather, 2s. Mr. S. Cochrane sold a property at Epsom, containing about five acres, with house, stables, and out-houses, occupied by Mr. Leonard for sixteen months, for the sum of £520. A paddock of five acres, on the Great North Eoad, was sold for £38 15a. The three years and eight months unexpiied of the lease of the Criterion Hotel, Hobsonstreet, was sold for £200. Mr. D. J. O'Keeffe sold some surplus medical stores at the Albert Barracks on Monday. An allotment, No. 5, of tbe parish of Maungatawhiri, containing 25 acres, sold for £23 ; lot No. 10, of section No. 49, of the Township of Queenstown, containing 1 acre 3 roods and 29 perches, sold for £11 10s.; lot No. 183, in the parish of Pakuranga, county of Eden, containing 5 acres, sold fur £7. Turrell and Touks held a clearance sale of clothing and drapery on Tuesday at their stores, Queenstreet. There was a good attendance, and satisfactory prices were realized. A sale of town lots at Kangiriri, Waikato, took place on Tuesday at noon, at the Waste Lands Office, but was not very well attended. C. Heaphy, Esq., officiated as auctioneer, and about eight lots were sold at a slight advance upon the upset prices. The remainder of the lots were withdrawn. Mr. C. Stichbury held an unreserved sale of wines and spirits, on Wednesday, at his stores. The following prices were realised : — Brandy, in bond, 145. ; old torn, in bond, 9s. 6d. ; champagne (quarts), in bond, 175. ; champagne (pints), in bond, 9s. 9d ; sauterne, duty paid, 21s. ; bottled ale, duty paid, Bs. ; bottled porter, free, 10s. 9d. The Suffolk Hotel, College Road, Freeman's Bay, sold for £800. Jones and Co. held a sale, on Wednesday, at their mart, Queen-street, and realised the following quotations : — Best Cavendish tobacco, in bond, Is.
