August 10. BUSINESS has been very dull duriug the last week, with, no transactions except for immediate consumption. A large auction sale of spirits, groceries, &c, was held on Monday last, at Messrs. I). Graham and Oo.'s store ; the prices obtained at which we quote elsewhere. The large schooner 'Flying Back' sailed on Saturday for the Mauritius, and the schooner • Kenilworth will to-day for the same place. It is not expected that there will be any direct importation of sugar till the arrival of these vessels; and as the stocks at the Australian ports are small, prices will no doubt remain firm. Above 50 tons of kauri gum have been brought to Auckland within the last week, and have found purchasers at the rates we quote. We do not expect any change in prices till the arrival of the next English mail. From the mine at Wangarei we have had 112 tons of coal during the last week. The following shows the state of the market with reference to the principal imported articles :—: — Wines and Spirits.— Stocks continue full, and large arrivals expected. Little sale of light wines. Good ports and sherries fairly supplied, but not overstocked. Inferior sorts of wines still abundant. Martell's pale brandy, Bs.; dark, 7». 6d. Rum, 10 0.p., 3s. 6d. Ale and Stout.— Ale is in full supply, with heavy stocks of iiferior kinds. Bass's bottled ale is worth from 12s. 3d. to 12s. 6d.; Ind, Coope, and Co.'s, 11s. 6d. to 1 2s. Pints stout wanted. Large arrivals of bottled stout, quarts, which has made the market dull. Tobacco. — lhere are large stocks of the common kinds on hand. Negrohead is worth Is. 6d. to 35.; Cavendish, good to fine, Is. 3d. to Is. 4d. There is a good supply of cigars. Manilla, No. 2, £3 ss. to £3 10s.; ditto HavanDah-shaped, £S ss. to £3 10s. Oilmen's —There is still a good demand for oilmen's stores, and prices rule high. Teas. — Stocks of all kinds good. Fair to good congous, Is. 6d. to 25. ; ordinary congous, Is. Id. to Is. 4d\, in bond. Coffee. — Scarce. Java, lO&d. to Is. Id. Sugars.— Stocks are now small, and prices firm. It is stated that a vessel is on the way from the Mauritius. Bacon and Ham. — Best brands, Varleys and Sinclair's hams, Is. 3d. to Is. 4d.;best brands bacon, Is. Id. to Is. 3d. ; other good brands, li. Sabdines. — Quarters may be quoted at 9s. to 9b. 6d. ; half, 10s. to 10s. 6d. Bottled Vinegar. — 12s. to 14i.; Is. 9d. to 2s. 3d. per gallon.
