General Post-office, Wellington, June 28, 1866. npENDERS will be received at this office,untilthe X 31st July next, from persons willing to CONTRACT for a LEASE of the General Government ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, as now constructed between the Bluff and Nelson, for the several periods of one, two, or three year.*. The whole line to be open to the public, and to be kept in complete repair by the lessee during the term of the tease, and to be delivered over in thorough working order at its termination. Tenders to specify a maximum scale o£ rates to be charged during the lease, and the rate at which Government telegrams will be conveyed. Tenders also to state terms for the above, with the addition of the extended line across Cook's Straits to Wellington, when the sub-marine cable shall have been laid, and the works completed. Each design must be distinguished by a motto, and the n*me and address of the competitor must be forwarded with it in a sealed envelope, having tbe same motto on the outside. Designs to be sent to the care of Messrs. Flemtno and Stevenson, Queen-street, Onehunga, not later than 6 p.m. of TUESDAY, the 31st July. A sum of fifty pounds has been set apart for prizes, to be divided into one, two, or three prizes, at the discretion of the Directors ; the first prize to be not less than £30. A prize will not be awarded to any design unless it shall be deemed to have sufficient merit.
