CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE.

I Following the example of regularly organised .■parishes] the committee of this church presented, on j Wednesday evening last, to the congregation a report of their- proceedings for the past ten months, of wbioh the following is an abstract: — The Church was opened on the 27th of August, by the Bishop of JSfew .Zealand, ami Divine service has been conducted therein regularly twice every Sunday— in the morning at eleven, and evening at half- past six — and has been attended by upwards of 153 adults. The average attendance at' Holy Communion, whioh is administered on the second Sunday in the nionth, has been 25. The committee in their report award ! to Mr. and Aiiss Beale the thanks of the congregation for the unwearied and effective assistance they have renilerec 1 , the former in training and drilling the choir, and the latter W orejanist. The schools have been well attended, especially the Sundayschool, but the day-sou'eol, like all the other schools in this, city, is now labouring under the great disadvantage of the usual grant from the Board of Education be.iug withheld. The financial ' statemeut pre, sentejd'l>y the treasurer, John Robertori, Esq., show« a small balance in hand, aud'a liability of £95 due to the builder of the church. '1 he income from the offertory, which has been slightly on the decline of late, may be put down at about £200 a year ; and from seat, lents, £80. Ihis source of income is likely .to increase., Many of the internal require- \ mentsof the chu'rcli have been most liberally presented by various, members of the CDngregation. An altar cloth and carpet were purchased by' the subscriptions of Various, friends of ,the church ; the harmonium and communion service have been presented by a member of the congregation. The report con.eludes by ' expressing thankfulness for, the great libevality evinced by the congregation, and the measure of success hitherto gran ted ; but the committee feel that it is hic;tily important, nay, absolutely necessary, that the laige and populous dis■trict around the church should have, as soon as possible, the udvautage of regular ministeiial' visitation. A large proportion of the adjaceut population is in *no parochial charge whatever. The Key. B. T. J)u 7 lley, who performs the Sunday' services, having other duties to perform'during the the weekVfioin tti'e performance of which he delives tlie gieater part' of his income, he is utterly ,uukt>le at present t to visit his congregation systematically. To secure this advantage, ii is ab>olutt-ly , necessary that the minister shall be resideut, and able to give his whole time to | arochial'duties ; but a, resident miuister cauuoc be obtained until the funds are forthcoming for his complete 'inaintennuc*?. ; The meeting wa's adjournt-d to an early date, to decide as to the best course 1 to be adopted to secure this desirable end.
