INSPECTION OF THE MARY SHEPHERD. Tbe final inspection of the chartered troop-trans-port ship Mary Shepherd, Captain Croot, was held yesterday. The following gentlemen were the inspecting officers : — Colonel Gamble; Captain Spain, R.N. ; Dr. Gibb-; and Dr. Stile* (40th). This vessel, which has been fitted for the reception of troops by Mr. Duthie, shipwright, was found in perfect readiness for sea, .and gave every satisfaction to the inspector?. She has been fitted for the conveyance of the following ;—; — 336 rank and file, 18 invalids, 4 staff sergeants, 20 women, and 40 children. The troops occupy hammocks, and the remainder cabins, fitted up by Mr. Duthie in a manner far superior to any vessel which has yet left this port on troop transport ■ervice The ventilation of the 'tween-decks, which is in size 170 feet by 34 feet, was much admired. The condenser, manufactured expressly fur the vessel by Messrs. Vickery and Masetield, of this city, was also acknowledged to be a creditable piece of machinery, and calculated to increase the reputation of the foundry. A cooking-range was supplied by the same firm, capable of providing for the wants of 600 persons. Her saloon contains 12 cabins, and iH appointed to accommodate 18 officers. The stern cabins are 15 f;et x 11, and handsomely appointed. The Rev. J. Bayley, Army Chaplain, will occupy one, and Lieutenant Colonel D. S. Blyth and family the other. Ten other cabins are 8 feet z 8 feet, a size much larger than usually found in pauesger ships.

The baggage of the 40th Regimeut will be shipped on board on Saturday, aud the troops will embark at 11 a.m. on Monday next.

VESSELS DUE. Several vessels, including the London ships, are now somewhat overdue at this port. The Alexandra is now 105 days out, and the Queen of the North 00. If, however, we may take the average passagei of London vessels recently arrived South and elsewhere, the two need uotbe expected for sometime yefc, owing to the prevalence of iight winds during the journey. The ship CiSby, from London to Lyttelton, occupied 117 days ; the Shelbourne, fiom London to Taranuki, . 132 days ; the Danish Beauty, from London to Nelsou, 123 days; and other passages h.ive been proportionately tedious aud protracted. The Queen of the North is a sifter ship to the Maiy Shepherd, at present in this harbour ; and the Alexandra is one of Messrs Shaw, SavilleandCo.'sline ot vessels to this poit. 'I he barque Dragon, from Ne \ castle to this port, with coals, will be a month out on Saturday ; and the Kate Waters is daily expected from Gladstone, with cattle. The baiqne Fanny Sarah, reported in Sydney as having left Valparaiso for this port with breadstuff*, may have sought another market for her cargo.
