PENROSE.

In consequence of the repeated attacks made on. the strength of the Commissariat Transport Corps, that branch of the Imperial service in New Zealand will soon be numbered with the things that were. Owing to repeated telegrams received from the Com-missary-General, acting on peremptory instructions from the Major-General commanding, the men, with very few exceptions, are struck off Imperial pay, and are now merely doing the ordinary routine of regimental duty, ere they finally take their departure from Penrose, en route to join the head-qnarters of their regiment at Tauranga. On the departure of the men attached to the Commissariat Transport Corps from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Waikato Regiments, to their land in the Waikato, Penrose presented a • very desolate appearance ; but when those now stationed here leave us, we shall be forsaken indeed. All the horses, save » very few, have been sold at public auction, and bhose not disposed of are only retained from absolute necessity ere the total dissolution of the -Staff. According to instructions, the detachment of the Transport Corps located at Waßganui is to be dissolved, and the men returned to their regiments immediately after the sale of the horses in their charge. There can be little doubt that the dissolution of the corps will be felt in this province, especially where the men have been stationed; and many will regret that this liberal medium of conveying Imperial pay to their pockets is now no more. — [From our correspondent.]
