QUEEN'S REDOUBT. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) February 9.

Colonel O'Brtef, in command of the Military Train, arrived here this evening, for the purpose of inspecting a portion of his men quartered here, and proceeds afterwards to the Thames district for a similar purpose. lam glad to be able to mention that a resident constable has at last been appointed for this district by Ms Honor the Superintendent. It is better late than never, but it is » great pity the appointment was not made long ere this. His name is Alexander Campbell, one of the Pokeno settlers. As we now have a police officer, while the Resident Magistrate, Charles Mellsop, Esq., lives at least fifteen miles from here, I am sure it would be a graceful act on the part of the Colonial Government to appoint a local J.P., as the distance to Papakura in some cases deters persons from prosecuting offenders. The 40th officers, from the Major downwards, are great favourites, as well as the men. Dr. Hemphill, who was quartered at Papakura, with a detachment of the 12fch, some twelve months back, is the medical officer, and still retains his old appellation, " A general favourite." Tbo "Bluff Hotol, tew »»*»»= 4rt™« V,o/»V V.JT Mr. Walker, has passed into the hands of Mr. Cameron, lately in the employ of Mr. Simpson. Hotel accommodation is now very good here.
