ARRIVAL OF THE P.S. STURT. The Colonial Government paddle-steamer Sturt, Captain Fairchild, arrived in faarbonr shortly after five o'clock yesterday morning, from Opotiki, with 31 Maori prisoners, charged with the murder of Fnlloon and the crew of the cutter Kate, at Whakatane. - The Start left Opotiki for Tanranga on Tuesday last, with orders to embark 100 men of the Waikato Militia and return to Opotiki, prior to leaving with the prisoners for Auckland. Embarked 44 rank and file of the Ist Waik&to Militia, at Tauranga, in command of Major St. John, together with Dr. Henry and Ensign Lawson ; and left on Wednesday for Maketu, where 40 rank aud file of the tame regiment, two sergeants, Lieutenant Gray, and Captain Leggett (the latter in command) were also embarked for Opotiki, Left Maketu at 5.30 on Thursday morning, and arrived at Opotiki at 1.30 lame day. During the evening the weather became very thick and stormy, rendering the bar impaflaaWe, and delaying the departure of the steamer for this "port until Friday evening. Embarked 31 prisoners, in charge of Captain Leggett (Ist W.M.), lieutenant Gray, two sergeants, aud a guard of 40 men,, and i

left Opotiki at 6.30 on Friday evening. Experienced rough weather after leaving, which continued unabated during the journey. Put into Maketu on Saturday morning, and received six native witnesses on board, amongst whom were the half-caste son of Mr. Bennett Whity Petipeti, For, and Henare te Pukuatu, and came on to Auckland, arriving in harbour as above, after a very rough passage. Mr. Commissioner Clarke, of Tauranga, also came up, in civil charge of the prisoners. Captains Wilson and Percival, of the Taranaki Yolnnteeru, and Mr. Raynor, of Auckland, were also passengers in the steamer with Dr. Hooper in medical charge.

ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. BEAUTIFUL STAB. The s.B. Beautiful Star, Captain H. Morwick, which we announced as putting into the Tamaki on Friday evening, came up harbour on Saturday morning to coal and take in cargo for Napier. She left the latter place for Auckland with a fall cargo of sheep on the evening of the 31st ultimo, and had fine weather, with moderate northerly winds, until rounding the East Cape on the following morning ; after which thick raiuy weather and strong winds set in, lasting throughout the remainder of the passage. Arrived at the Tamaki about 5.30 on Friday evening, and discharged her sheep, in excellent condition, without any loss during the passage, making the fourth cargo brought by this vessel without the loss of a single head. Reports the Colonial Government steamer St. Kilda leaving Napier on Wednesday evening for Waiapu, with 200 natives belonging to that distriot on board. The Beautiful Star will leave again for Napier this evening. Cargo ; 1,060 sheep, Messrs. Hunter and Co. — Henderson and Maofarlaue, agents.

ARRIVAL OF THE SCHOONER SAUCY LASS. The schooner Saucy Lais, Captain McKenzie, arrived in harbour at noon on Saturday from Napier, vifl. Mercury Bay, with a full oargo of sawn timber from the latter place. She left Napier on the 20th ultimo, and had N.N.B. winds and rainy weather until arriving off the East Cape. Brought up off Waiapu in consequence of the strong contrary winds and rough weather. Remained there two days, and left on the 28th for Mercury Bay. Had light winds until the 30th, when it veered round to the eastward and came on to blow. Took, in a cargo of timber at Mercury Bay, and left for Auckland on Friday, arriving here ou Saturday. Reports the cutter Glimpse, Captain Poulgrain, as ready to fail from the bay for Christchurch, with a full cargo of sawn timber. Was in company with the schooners Zillah, Rose Ann, Queen, and Kauri, all bound for Auckland, and the brig Maggie, for Newcastle, off the East Coast. The schooner Queen was to load timber at Wangapoa for this port;. The Saucy Lass brings a cargo of 27,000 feet of sawn timber, and 15 passengers.

VESSELS WINDBOUND. The weather of Saturday and yesterday continued unfavourable for the departure of vessels, causing a temporary suspension of coasting trade. Several large vessels have likewise been considerably detained in consequence of the strong northerly and N.N.W. winds which h»ve prevailed during the past week. LAUNCH AT WANGAREI. Last Friday, * fine vessel was launched from tha ship-building yard of Mr. Macgregor, at Wangarei Heads, for Mr, Donald Stewart, of that place. She was named the Black Watch. The launch was very successful. The Black Watch is a topsail schooner of about 100 tons, and reflects great credit on her builder.

THE BARQUE KATE. The barque Kate, of this port, cleared at the Customs on Saturday, for Sydney, with a large general cargo (particulars of which will be found in our exports report), and the following passengers :—: — Messrs. THE SCHOONER TATJJRANGA. The schooner Tauranga, Captain Faulkner, sen., which left Auckland for Taurang* on Tuesday evening last, with a cargo of Commissariat hay, itores, and general merchandise, and a large number of passengers, returned to port on Saturday morning, having been unable to get beyond Motutapu, in consequence of the severity of the weather and contrary winds which prevailed during the week. Reports the cutter Shamrock, bound to Port Charles, lying at Motutapu, in company with the Taaranga, awaiting » change of wind.

MISCELLANEOUS. The only departure on Saturday and yesterday was the P.,N.Z., and A.U.M. Co.'ss s. Lord Ashley, for the Southern provinces, which left the harbour at four o'clock. I H.M.s. Eclipse, Captain Fremantle, will leave for i Wellington to-day or to-morrow. The schooner Alice will enter outwards, for Sydney, to-day, and sail with a change of wind. The s.B. Beautiful Star, Captain Morwick, coaled , at the schooner Sea Bird, on Saturday, and will load at the wharf to-day, leaving for Napier in the evening. ' The pa.
