MR. J. HALYDAY'S NEW UPHOLSTERY AND CABINET WAREHOUSE.

Next to Mr. Rattray's establishment is the new upliolstery and cabinet warehouse erected by Mr. J. Halyday, also ou the site of the late fire in Shortlandstreet. This new warehouse, orshop, measures 70ft. by 22ft. , and is fitted up in a style that would do credit to any city. It is largely stocked with a varied and valuable collection of furniture of modern deiign and first-class workmanship. It would be endless to mention all the ai tides exposed for sale. There are suites of articlei to furnish the different apartments of a dwelling-house — German couches, Devonports, ohiffouieros, book-eases of all descriptions, sofa or "occasional" table*, card table», marble top cabriole washstnnds, bedstead* of every detign, and easy chairs of somo twenty different patterns, childreu's cots, plate-glass mirror* of various sizes, every description of mattresses, bedding, 4c, tapestry, Brussels carpets and damasks. We were «hown a rich and unique specimen of marquetry panelling for ohiffouieres. It is of elaborate deiign, displaying various colour*, each formed of separate minute piece* of wood inlaid. Mr. Halyday purposes making a number of panel* from this design for chiffonieres, which will render them highly ornamental. Books of designs are kept in the warehouse, each design representing the complete suite of furniture required to furnish the several rooms of a home. Furniture can be made from the patterns at various price*. From these elaboratQ designs it will be seen that the fashion in London in the preient day is the medieval and Elizabethan styles. The furniture is made of different kinds of wood, including kauri, rirau, cedar, and walnut. A large reserve stock of furniture is kept in the factory in O'Connell-street, where a number of workmen are constantly employed. Mr. Halyday deserves much credit for his enterprise, and we have no doubt lie will find that hi* extended busineu will ba a remunerative one.
