THE FINANCIAL INCOMPETENCY OF THE WELD GOVERNMENT.

We Jake the following from a leading article in the Nelton Goloniti of the 24th instant :— "To revert to the position of the preient Ministry and the finanoial knowledge of their predecesiori. It has been made public that Mr., Stafford was not many houra in offloe when he discovered" that no provision had been made for sending home about £200,000 by last mail, to meet liabilities falling due in England in Deoember next. He inquired of Sir Geor&e Grey if he knew anything of this, and was told, we believe, that he did not Mr. Weld wai sent for, and he too confeued his ignorance of the matter; thelato Colonial Treasurer, Mr. Fitzherbert, was next applied to, and he, good easy man, pleasantly said that he believed something had to be tent ; but nothing had yet been done in the matter. Fortunately for the "oredit of the colony," about which the tate Ministry have at all times vaunted, and with which they have so often threatened the House, Mr. Stafford's diicovery enabled " timely arrangements to be made, and the remittances sent home. This fact, while it has injured the falling prestige of the late Ministry, has added to that of Mr. Stafford, and we believe that this, and the prospect of an approaching election, will .bring round numbers of members to the side of Mr. Stafford, and enable him to pass the necessary votes of supply, and bring Parliament to an end. There are, we understand, but few subjects which will now be considered by, the Home of Representatives, and from what we can learn, it is not improbable that Parliament may be dissolved within the next ten days, and that within a mouth we shall be in the middle of a general Parliamentary election. Of course" this is partly conjectural ; and much depends on what is dons in Wellington. If amajoiuj is adverse, we believe a dissolution will come with greater speed," ,
