LAUNCH OF THE STEAMER WAITEMATA. The new steamer lately on the stocks at Messrs Holmes Brothers' ship building yarcU, North Shore, was successf ully launched yesterday The weather was all that could be deiiredj and there were about 100 spectators on the ground The time appointed for the launch w.n two o'clock, but the tide being full a little sooner thin was expected, the iron dog was knocked away, and at » few minute? before two o'clock the vessel glided slowly into the rippling ■Hater, there being at the time only a light breeze from the lior'-west There were several Indies and gentlemen on board when the launch took place, who, upon their lctuin to the iliore, expressed themselves much pleased with their short trip, which was to the pier and back When the keel of the Waitemata touched the water, cheers loud and prolonged were given by the veiy numerous concourse of spectators present The christening was peiforme d by Mr*. The following are her dimensions : — Length of keel, 70 feet ; length overall, 74 feet ; breadth of beam, 16 feet , braadth over paddle boxes, 28 feet; depth of hold, 5 feet; and ii 83 tons burthen. She ii fitted with rudder* at each end to obviate the neceulty of turning, and i» consequently built sharp at both end*.
