PROSPECTUS.

The Mannkau Steam Company has been projected in older to supply a cheap and legular means of communication between the capital aud the extensive districts watered by the Waikato and its tributaries, aud His various settlements on the shoves of the Manukau harbour. The scheme embraces nofc only the placing a suitable steamer on tho Manuk.xn, but also the construction of a cheap tramway aciossthe level country between the Waiuku and the banks of the Waikato, with proper wharfage and storage accommodation at all the places at which the company's boats will call. It may also be found desirable to extend operations to the Waikato itself ; and by running boats on that river and its branches, to undeitako the carrying ti affic traffic through the whole distance. Th» location of three regiments of Waikato Militia in the upper poition of the country has already created a considerable amount of ti affic ; and the opening up of those tertile districts to the enterpiise of European colonisation will ceitainly lead to the development of the natural resources of the country to a very laige extent Already the highly successful sale of a part of the site of the future city of Newcastle (at the junction of the Waikato and Waipa nvers) has bhown the favourable e.stimato which the mercantile community has formed of the prospects of trade in that distiict ; an estimate which tho approaching settlement of l.irge numbers of European immigiants on the Waikato lands cannot fail to justify. It is obvious that, whei ever a large population springs up, ready means of communication must be provide I . It is, therefoie, to meet an actual neces-i-iby, that the establishment of the Mauukau Steam Company line is pioposed, aud the Provisional Directon feel that they can, with peifecfc confidence, recommend the scheme to their fellow colonists in the assuiance that it will nob only be of greab service to the community, 111 as-.isting to open up an. impoi Unt pai t of this piovince, but also, if wisely carried out, a source of considerable profit to the ghareholdeis. Applications for shares will be leceived by the Audei signed until noon of MONDAY, October 17. GEO. HODGIS, Hon. Secretary. Foi ms of application for shares can be obtained of Mr. H. P.
