We reached Awamulu at day break tins morning (21st), found the Mission Buildings uninjui'cd and moved on immediately to Eaut^iaw hi.i. There were not ninnj' natives at IJangiawhia. but a few of them took refuge in a whare, and made a desperate resistance Twelve of them wore, killed, and thirty three pnsoners taken, of whom twelve were men. I regret to say that we had «o^cn casualties three killed and four Mounded, among the Litter Colonel 2\i\on, dauqeiously The nnmes of the killed are Corpoial Alexander and Puvate both of the Colonial Defence Force, and Pnvate Aitken, 65th lJegnuent. Wounded John Balhndeu, Forest E augers ; Private AY Smith. 05th Regiment > Corporal Dunne, Colonial Defence Force. AYe l'eturned and encamped at Aw.imntu The convoy arrived safe at tno p.m.
