Mr. Smitli and Captain Jackson came up with the steamer, which may now be looked upon, we believe, as belonging to Auckland. Her cabin accommodation is very complete, and her length gives her gipat advantage for carrying deck passengeis. It is intended to place the steamer on the berth to Coromandel, and when we state that the cutter ' Thames' took down twenty-five diggers yesteiday evening, there is reason to suppose that woik enough will be found for the ' Tasmanian Maid.' — Ibid. TheI.CR.M. steamer ' Lord Woisley' sailed from Nelson on Sunday week, on her passage to Sydney, by way of Taiauaki and Manukau, but has not since been heaul of. She had on board, among others, Messis. Robt. Giaham and Chailes Taylor, and Capfc. Butler, who were returning from their senatdial labours to Auckland. As the weather was fine the presumption is that her machinery bioke down, and she has been knocking about under canvas. We hope, however, that the government will dispatch a vessel immediately to look after her, for fear of anything more serious having happened. — " Daily Southern Cioss," Sept. 9. The biig 'Gil Bias,' Miles, master, from Napier, arrived heie yesterday. Left Napier September sth, with 65 head of cattle on board, consigned to Mr. Buckland, and lost twelve during the tup. Expeueiiced light SW. winds till neanug the Great Barrier on last Wednesday, .and when within twentysix miles of that island a sudden gale commenced at E.N.E., at 4 a m., blowing with excessive fury, with a driving lain and heavy confused sea The barometer then registered 29 45. During the afternoon of the same day, the wind veered to the S.E., and modei ated at 8 p.m., with a lising barometer. It is somewhat remarkable that on Tuesday and Wednesday last, the barometer in Auckland was unusually

low, with atmospheric indications of a gale fioin the eastwaid, bat it passed off with vaiiablo light winds, cloudy weather, and slight showers.
