The Lord Ashley, s.s., Captain Kennedy, arrived in harbour at Onehunga, on Sunday, at H P-M. She hug made a first rate trip from the South. Her dates are : departure from Nelson on Friday last, at 2£ p.m., (with a strong breeze from the W.) and arrival at Taranaki at 9 A.M. on Saturday ; where she landed 30 tons of cargo, and took -on board 300 sheep (ewes and lambs) and 3 head of fat cattle, which we are informed are equal, if not superior to any as yet imported from that fine fattening province. She left Taranaki the same day at 54 p.m., and crossed the Manukau bar, which was breaking right across the entrance, on Sunday at 11 a.m. It was nearly low water at the time. The Lord Ashley is advertised to sail on Saturday next, and will, should our Sydney steamer arrive in the meanwhile, take down the European mails for the South. We are sorry to have to report the total loss on Thursday, the 3rd inst., of the " Salopian," Captain Jones, at Ngururu. The " Salopian" missed stays on the bar in consequence of baffling winds, between 3 and 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Fortunately no lives were lost, and we are informed that the cargo, which consisted principally of timber, has been saved. The White Swan, Captain Cellem, arrived in Official Bay on Saturday afternoon, and remained on the hard. Her dates are Wellington the 15th, and Ahuriri the 17th. She spoke the Mermaid on Friday last off the Ariel Rocks. On her trip betw<£n Hawkes Bay and Wellington, the White Swan experienced fearful weather, seas constantly breaking over her ; some even as high as her funnel. H.M.S. Niger left for the Manukau on Saturday. His Excellency and suite will join her at that port, and proceed to the Southern ports.

The I.R.M. Company's steamer Prince Alfred, arrived from Sydney on Wednesday last, having left on the night of the 10th instant, bringing files to that date. The English mail had not arrived up to the time of Her departure, but it was stated that should it be telegraphed by the 12th inst., which is the date for the Airedale's departure for Auckland, that vessel would be detained till it arrived ; and we should then receive it by the Lord Ashley's next trip from the latter port. — Nelson Colonist, Nod. 18.
