To the Electors cf .the Southern Division.

pENTLEMEN,— A vacancy in the represensentation of your Division in the JBouae of Representatives having been caused by the resignation of Mr. C. J. I would gladly have declined becoming a candidate upon the present occasion, (owing to press of private business,) were it not for the strong irterest I take in the advancement and prosperity of New Zealand generally, and of this Province in particular, and believing as I do that there it an absolute necessity to urge upon the present Government to pass some measures which will have the effect of opening up the country, thereby developing the internal resources and the hidden treasures of New Zealand, from which

this Province' would greatly benefit. As a claim to your suffrages, I may state that I have made myself acquainted with almost every settled portion of your Division, and have gained a knowledge of your respective requirements.
