COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
BußinsTurFS.— Since our last repc u flour has men about £3 per ton, anil is very firm at our quotations. It is rather a remarkable fact that up to the present time the stocks of flour here have been proportionally heavier than in any of the other colonies. This is - proved by the fact that, on several occasions lately, prices rose at Adelaide, in Van Diemen s Land, and Sydney, and that invariably the tendency to rise was kept down by the steadiness of this market. But stocks are now low in Melbourne ; in short barely equal to local consumption, and when the present fall sio<-ks at the diggings are somewhat reduced, a renewed demand will strongly operate, and this market will no longer be able to bear' down the neighbouring colonial markets. The operation may be modified by arrivals irom abroad, but we confess out expectations of adequate supphos are not sanguine.— Melbourne Price Currant, June 28. A circular of Mr. F. Cozens, of London, dated April 3rd, shows a falling off of shipments of wines and spirits to Australia of at least onu-fourth in the Brst quartet of 1555, as compared with the previous quarter, l ins imparted a firm tone to the market, and a rise of 6d. per gallon was declared on brandies.- Melbourne Argus, June 29. r The continued decrease in the exports from Great Britian to the 'Australian Colonies will, it is felt, c tercise considerable influence on our markets. In the exports of drapery Igoods to Melbourne the falling off-is most remarkable, as will be seen by the *o»owing monthly statement of the values :-1804, June, 4169.700 ; July £118,954; August, £126,548; September, £87,402 ; October, £121,468; November, 98.028; DeMiiibj^ £120,762. 1855, January, £28,771 ; Fcbiuary, £2i,906 ; March, £12,352.— 1 bid. . . —The cargo of the Aphradite has not yet arrived m the w, hut it is known that large consignments of flour arc on board, 3000 barrels being consigned to one house — Ibid.
