" BY HIMSELF " AGAIN. To the Editor of the Sew-Zealandor. S: r —Do preserve from oblivion, by givi-is; insertion to the following morceiu Horn the " Ne,v O'hml corrtipondence, published in the last " Prouncuil ba"That no sums were appropriated during the 3ul session of the Provincial Council for providing the expenses of the staff that is required by the Waste Land Board. And although a Resolution was agreed to purporting to authorize the Superintendent to pay certain sums for that purpose, but as that Resolution cannot be treated as legal authority, and as moreover the Provincial Council declined to furnish the means of providing the funds required for that service, it will be impossiblt that warrants can be signed for the pavment of salaries until money shall have been appropriated to that letTice." . Sir, a friend of mine, who lends " money in small sums," has promised to put me into the Provincial Council, and I shall most certainly there propose that a sum shall be placed upon the estimates to provide a schoolmaster for the present Superintendent. I am, sir, Aw Independent Elector.
Auckland, June 28. This is what the ' New-Zealandfr ' saris the Superintendent wrote. Subjoined (the letter has been common property long since) is what the Superintendent did -write word for word :— I have the honour to inform you, with respect to Resolution 11, that no sums were appropriated dining the third session of the Piovincial Council for providing the salaries of the staff that ib required by the Wakte Land Board. It is true that a Resolution was agreed to purporting to authorise the Superinteudent to pay certain sums for that purpose ; but, as I cannot treat that Resolution as legal authority, and as, moreover, the Provincial Council declined to furnish me with the funds required for that service, it will be impossible for me to sign warrants for the payment of salaries, until money •hall have been appropriated to that service. Is the ' New-Zealander ' not ashamed !
