It seems pretty clear from tho " opinion" we refer to, and from sovcral others which we have lately insertid in our columns, in relation to other important matters of law, that there has been but little consideration given as to what was law, or what was not. The result is a general confu-ion, which cannot be remedied without much time and trouble; nor without serious lots and inconvenience to a large number of the community. Thcit are doubtlefs many who do not immediately feel the inconvenience of institutions or act, being illegal ; and who would be disposed, like the 'New Zealander,' to consider legality as the greatest bore in creation ; *but we doubt not the vast majority vvi 11 agree with us in thinking that our Institutions must be establi>hed upon a sure foundation, or they may at any time full to the ground. That there should now be an outcry, we are not surprised. We have been paying a good price in order to secure the best legal talent — to see that the business of the Colony wa3 duly, legally, and properly transacted ; aud it is a matter of tho most serious moment to find that our money, and our confidence have been thrown away, and that one institution after another crumbles to pieces, by reason of the unskilful or careless manner in which it has been constructed.
