THE CABINET COUNCIL.
To the Editor of the Southern Crots. Sir, — " Having (to use the ' New-Zealander's ' words of Wednesday) heaid that the following notice has appeared ia the ' Genernla Government Gazette,' and as that interesting periodical does not reach this remote portion of the Province, will you kindly intimate whether such rumour is correct" :—: — Cabinet Council Office, Shortl nd-strect, May 30th, 1855. Whereas at a Cabinet Council held this evening, at which vrere present.the hon.,the A Qt l.the very hon.,a M rof the P r S ts; the verygallant.the B d M r ; the very unfortunate, the Ch— r — n, of the defunct C y C 1 ; the veiy redoubtable, the D q S — p — r, it was seriously taken into consideration that " a strictly legal government was the greatest bore in creation/* and that for the better government of the Province in future, the present legal genernment be smashed, with the utmost possible despatch, in order that the old devil-may-care, happy-go-lucky state of matters be brought about again. No \r, know ye, all men, that I, by the powers vested in me by \ irtue of the authority derived from the Cabinet Council beforementioned, do hereby proclaim that every Government other than that proceeding from the Cabinet Council aforesaid and every.Provmcial Council or City Council, or any other thing whatever in matters cither public or private, contrary to the wish and opinion or not in accordance with the feelings of said Cabinet Council, shall be to all intents and purposes whatsoever null and void, as if the same never existed, and no Council, or Superintendent, or any body of men collectively <>r any person individually who shall do or say or perform any act, contrary to the wishes of the said Cabinet Council, shall from henceforth be toler.iUd, and any parties who shall infringe on the prerogative of the said Cabinet Council shall forthwith be persecuted to the utmost rigour of the press, and be written down bv it according to the law and form presciibcd by the Cabinet Council aforesaid.
