SLAUGHTER HOUSE ABOMINATIONS.

To the Editor of tie ' Sovthern Cross. 1 Sir, — As I know you are always ready to expoie übuups, I feel certnin you will insert the following untiaggeritcd description of the present state of tbe Slaughter Hou«e: — Ttie first abomination is the Stockyard ; about eighteen inchei of moit offensive matter, with hero and there a lump of scoria, happily contrived to knock down and bruiie the cattle ; while plenty of •tones are lying about in all directions, which coutd be thrown over the fence, and the y»rd rendered clean and serviceable at little or no expense. Immediately before the door are strewed a numbrr of hoofs, heads, legs, offal, &c , through which one must wade before he enters. On raising one 0/ the lfgs w.trr a stick, the hoofs fell off. and out tumbled hundreds of maggots ; the stench in the open air was abominable. On entering, the first sight that greeted me was a dead calf, which seemed to have undergone tome dep'latory process. A little further off was another, which looked more like a calf. How long both had been lying there, I cannot say. The wall was adorned with rotten sheep-ikini, (appropriate pietares) the floor slippery with blood, entrails, &<?. ; the corners full of filth ; the tackle seemingly incomplete, and the ropes nearly worn out $ and a bullock intended for the consumption of the in* habitants to day, hanging from the roof—hanging perhaps all night in that atmosphere. During plague se&'ons a piece of beef appended to the tail of a kite, comes down poison. Is m j at killed and prepared in such a place fit for human use.
