On Sunday the 17th inst. the schooner "Sister" whilst between East Cape and Cape Runaway and about 15 miles from land was struck by something on the larboard side of the stem with such tremendous force that all the wood ends were started — the stem split — an,d, a serious leakage caused : she was immediately trimmed by the ttern to keep the leak I as much as possible out of water, and with continued labor at the pumps, and not without the most serious apprehensions, 'Capt. Read succeded in put* ting back to Anaura where sufficient of her cargo was discharged to heave the leak out of water, when on removing the copper for the purpose of caulking largc-peicea of, the black skin of a whale were discovered between the copper and the sides of the ressel ! We understand that by this extraordinary encounter the "Sister" has received so much dam age as to render it necessary that she should undergo a thorough repair.
