Desperate finish in the Sir Thomas Wilford Memorial Handicap at Trentham on Saturday, when half a head and a neck separated the placed horses. Golden Shadow beat Scottish Emperor (nearest camera) by a neck, the two horses having raced over the last 30 or 40 yards in that position. The third horse, Characteristic who started again later to win the last race, finished on the rails and is almost totally obscured by the other two horses.
