The Manawatu Hunt Club is Importing a 10-year-old sire from England with the object of improving the breed of hunters in the Manawatu district. It is hoped that he .will be,available to, .breeders, by . next covering sbason; I’he • animal selected is by Solarlo 'from Maralga, by 'Friar Marcus from Alga, by Merman from Tutti Frutti, by Persimmon from New Zealand, by Isonomy/from ' Australia, by Young Melbourne; ' New Zealand was second dam of the H-ardwieke Stakes winner Lancaster, and fourth dam of the Oaks and Goodwood Cup winner Brulette. This is the Peppermint branch of the No. 1 family which produced Rockingham, winder of the St. Leger, Goodwood Cup and . Doncaster Cup; The Bard, winner of the Goodwood., Cup and Doncaster Cup; and the successful racehorse and sire Hotweed. Maralga, dam of the importation won three races and was dam of four winners.

Conference Secretory, ' Mr. A. M. Mcßeath, secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference, has been confined to his .home for some weeks because of ill-health. He is making a slow recovery and is not expected to resume duties for another. month. Bought at the Sales. Robin’s Reward, winner at his first start of the Nursery Handicap at the Waverley meeting on Monday, is a chestnut colt by Robin Goodfellow from Rapt, and was bred by Mr. J. J. Barry. Inglewood. The colt was bought by Mr. F. H. Walker. Hawera,' for 435gn5., at the national sales in January. He is a half-brother to Deliberate, who won bine races in Australia, and the winners Bantry, Rapper and Fafner. The dam, Rapt, who never raceiL is half sister to La Justice (winner or the Maribyrnong Plate) and to Pelagift’ (dam of Foxhaven); and traces to Neva, sister ,to Droskl, the second dam of Alma, Travenna, Ventrac, Amy Johnson and Boloyna. Grand Rapids, Limerick, Ballymena, Aborigine, Cherubini and Danube eame from this branch of the family. Mid-week Racing. An early return to mid-week racing was urged at a meeting of L the -Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association. Several members drew attention to the additional expense through having to attend meet' ings extending from Saturday to Satun day. The Joker in Work.
