Wellington Spring Meeting FORM FOR TODAY

Apart from the Railway Handicap, very satisfactory acceptances were received by the Wellington Trotting Club for its meeting at Treutham today. Keen interest is being taken in the Wellington Stakes, which in all probability will be fought out by Highland Fling and Globe Direct, but with young horses there is always the possibility of a surprise. The course has been in good order throughout the week, and though the forecast for today is not promising it would take a lot of ralu to affect the going. 4 The only scatchings are Walter Jingle and Mamanuas from the Nai Nai and Taita Handicaps. 11.45

In the Nai Nai Handicap horses likely to play a prominent part'are Suzerain, Port Chalmers and Aerial Scott. The first named ran third to Frank Scott and Noble Lady at Methven, and the field today is not so strong. Port Chalmers raced seven times last season for four placed performances, registered at Hawera and Awapuni. Aerial Scott won the Trotting Stakes at Addington in March and promises to develop form well above the average. Of the others, Toushay may do best. He ran two seeouds iu consecutive races at Auckland last Monday. Those in demand will include Suzerain, Port Chalmers and Aerial Scott. 13.27—

Herald, Remlap and Clydeside are likely horses in the Sharpe Handicap. The former won at Geraldine iu September, registering 2.51 2-5 for 10 furlongs. At Methven he was second to Tony Grattan, and later was again second to Lord Peterson at Addington. Remlap ran third to Sand Maid and Colin Water at Addington, and later at Forbury ran second to Redcllffe Direct, with Lucky Meg in fourth place. Clydeside ran second in the Winton Juvenile Stakes, and was similarly placed in the 'Wyndham Stakes, which was won by Copper Trail, h ancles may be Herald. Remlap and Clydeside. The field in the Railway Handicap Is a small one, and on current form the ehahees of Water Ranger and Noble Rata appear to be the best. The latter ran two good races at Oamaru on Monday. ■Water Ranger had a useful record last year, while this season he won the Avonmore Handicap at Methven from Marco Polo, Chinook and Noble Reta.

Jack’s Son, the Scottish Emperor-Nola Scott bracket and Impetial Lady should be in strong demand in the Sir Thomas WUford Memorial Handicap. The first-named has won comfortably each of the two races he has contested this year, these being the Metropolitan Stakes at Addington in August, and the S. G. Holmes Memorial Haudieap at Methven. Scottish Emperor and Nola Scott have each shown good form this rear. The former had an end-to-end victory at Addington, those Immediately behind him being Lucky Loyal, Imperial Ladv, and Cameronian. Scottish Emperor ialwell suited by the large track at Irentliain and he should extend Jacks boaimperial Ladv has three placed performances to her credit this season, and must be respected for her consistency.. ■Jacks Son, Scottish Emperor and Imperial Lady will command support.

WELLINGTON STAKES, of £6OO. Three-year-olds. One mile and a half. Town Talk Globe Direct Highland Fling Sir Michael Scholarship Captain Gaillard I 'Bra t clret°: b Flrst Globe and Globe Direct. Highland Fling and the Globe DirectFirst Globe bracket wil’ largely monopolize the betting in the Wellington Stakes, and a keen contest should be witnessed notwithstanding the small field. Highland Fling won two of the three races he contested last vein- and was second to Sprayman in the other. It was in this race that Highland Scott created a New (Maland record for a two-year-old by running the mile in 2.10. Globe Direct won the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes last year, while at Addington in August he won the Canterbuiy Three-vear-old Stakes trom Sir Michael and First Globe. Highland Hing ran unsuccessfully among older horses at Auckland and should be all the better tor the outing. Possibly he will be favourite from the Globe Direct bracket.

This horse seldom runs a poor race, and so far lie lias two placed performances to ills credit out of three starts. At Addington in August he ran third to Zingarrie and Imperia! Ladv. while at Methven he was a good second to Luckv Loyal in the Cup. Jack s Son, Golden Shadow and Imperial Lady may do best.

The principal race meeting in Australia lodny will be the cup meeting of the Mooiiee Valiev Racing Club. The cup Is a £3500 event run over a mile and five furlongs. The weight-for-age race on the programme is the W. S. Cox Plate, one mile and a among the horses entered were Lawrence, Tranquil Star, Counsel, Attley, Don Pedro. Royal Gem, St. Fairy, Flight and Russia.
