Public Service Regrading. The time for the regrading of the Public Service has been fixed as April 1 1946 A declaration to this effect by the Public Service Commissioner appears in thsi week’s Gazette. Reduced Price of Milk. The milk department announces a-fe-duction in the price of milk, as from November 1. Householders are requested to obtain a supply of the new issue of tokens for use as from that date. Gift to Hospital. ■The Wellington Hospital Board has received from Air. W. McEwen a cheque for £2OO, to be used to purchase specialized laboratory equipment' for res-earch work, in memory of his late wife. Transfer of Laboratory. The Radio Development Laboratory, a branch of the Department of Scientific nnd Industrial Research, will shortly close down in Wellington, and the director, Mr. J. B. C. Taylor, and his staff, will be transferr&l to the Dominion Physical Laboratory at Lower Hutt. Condition of Rivers. It was stated by the Wellington Acclimatization Society yesterday that all rivers and streams in the Wellington district were in good condition, and if there is no rainfall and overhead conditions are right, the smaller streams should be in excellent condition for fly fishing. Reception To Hifh Commissioner. A civic reception will be tendered to Mr. W. Jordan, High Commissioner for New Zealand in the United Kingdom, and Mrs. Jordan, in the Concert Chamber, Wellington, next Friday at 12 noon. An invitation to be present is extended to all citizens. Visit, to Christchurch. The Wellington Parks and Reserves Committee has been invited by the Christchurch City Council to spend a few days there inspecting various parks and gardens which are among the finest features of the city. Members of the committee will leave Wellington ou Wednesday, and \ will probably return three days later. Reply From Air. Churchill. A personal reply has been received by the president of the Royal Society of St. .George, Mr. J. E. Hunt, to a letter written by him on behalf of the members of that society, to Mr. Winston Churchill thanking him for the great part he has played during the war years. Street. Day Appeal.. The street day collection, for the Wellington Nurses' Convalescent Beach Cottage Society on Thursday, realized £1361 14/3. Sister Kirkpatrick, on behalf of the society and the nurses, expressed warmest appreciation to the public for the wonderful response. Radar Equipment for University. The payment of £6O for securing certain radar components for bio-electric apparatus from the War Assets Realization Board was approved at a meeting of the Victoria University College Council on Wednesday night. “This is a good opportunity to obtain this equipment, said the principal. Sir Thomas Hunter, adding that it would be invaluable for research. ' . Learners’ Pool at’Karori. The construction of- a swimming pool / for children learning to swim will be started alongside the Karori baths next week, said the chairman of the Wellington parks and reserves committee, Mr. R. L. Alacalister, yesterday. - The baths will be 30 feet in length and 12 feet wide. A depth of three feet will be uniform at both ends. Air. Maealister added that the cost was estimated at £1250. Hutt Valley National Club. Air. K. J. Holyoake,., National Party member for Pahiatua, visited the Hutt Valiev National Club recently to talk to members about post-war problems, specially those concerning the youth of the country. The speaker was introduced by Afiss R. K. Silverwood, chairman o£ the Junior branch of the Hutt Valley National Party. The clubrooms were packed to the doors, many senior members attending as well as junior members. Servicemen’s Offences. “I think the Navy. Army and Air Force should be aware that this Court has to inflict adequate penalties on their personnel who appear before me,” said Mr. Stout, S.M., when fining Homer Oliver, an ex-airman, in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. Oliver, who was charged with assaulting Roger Hamilton Garry in the Allied Services Club, in Wellington, on October 6. told the magistrate that the offence had already cost him about £l5 in the Air Force of which he was a member at that time. “We cannot be concerned whether these men have been punished by the Air Force or not,” said Air. Stout. “They appear here on a charge involving criminal law and we have to deal with them in an adequate manner.” Accused was fined £3.
