SCHEDULES FOR 1946 IMPORTS
In Printers’ Hands, Says
Mr. Nash
The 1946 import schedules were in the hands of the printers, .said the Minister of Customs, Air. NASH, in reply to Air. Bowden (N., Wellington West). He said he could not state how long the schedules would be, but he hoped they would be available in a reasonably short time.
Mr. Bowden said that importers, manufacturers and traders were greatly concerned as to when the schedules would be issued. The 1945 licences had been extended to June, 1946. with the stipulation that orders must, be lodged and accepted not later than November 1. The virtual position was, therefore, that orders had stopped and could not resume til] it was known what eould be done under the 1946 schedule. Prouction was being stepped up in England, but if what was available was not taken now, it might not be there Inter as there were great demands from other countries. He knew that care was being exercised to try and meet urgent requirements, specially from manufacturers. He also appreciated that the Minister was in the midst of negotiations, for instance, over lend-lease.
