Plans To Push Forward
(Received October 26, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 2b. France is going ahead immediately with the development of atomic energy, says the “Daily Mail’s” Paris correspondent. The Sahara, if necessary, will be used for the experiments. France’s ato.n director, Raoul D’Autry, said: “I shall establish the headquarters of the newlyappointed French Atomic Energy Development Commission in or near Paris and get to work. We don’t intend to wait and see what other nations are going to do. France will go ahead and harness the atom on her own if need be, or with the British, or other nations, if possible. He revealed that the commission was calling on the leading scientist, M. Joiliot Curie, for. help. BRITAIN’S ATOMIC POLICY LONDON, October 25. The Prime Minister, Mr. Attlee, told the House of Commons today that no statement about the Government’s policy on atomic energy would be made till the international aspects had been discussed witli the United .States and Canada. He hoped a statement would be made as soon ns possible.
