PETROL SUPPLY
Position In Dominion “You may be surprised to know that a great many of the petrol coupons recently issued have not been used,” said the chairman, Mr. E. A. Batt, at the annual meeting of the Automobile Association (Wellington) on Thursday night. “It is obvious that a number of neop'.e are in possession of more petrol licences than they need. If we allowed ourselves to ne urged to make advances for more petrol by the motorists who are very keen about-this question, I think we would be doing more harm than good. “A better understanding between England and America is required before the petrol position can be improved. The country’s petrol has to be paid for in dollars, and till the problem of that dollar exchange can be countered, there is little prospect of the petrol situation being overcome. When we can buy the petrol in sterling, the position will get better.”
