Two New Zealand Men Appointed POSITIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Two appointments have been made from New Zen 111 lid to the British Coloma Service in Africa following the appeal made some little time ago by the Governor <»f Kenya fur assistance m filling vacancies in the legal service of the Announcing this last night, the I’ilblie Service Coniinissioncr. Air. «L 11. Moyes, ♦mid that following a review of the applications a small number of candidates was selected for interview and from these two nominal ions were submitted to the Governor of Kenya. One of the nominees was accepted for a position as Crown Counsel in Kenya, while the other was offered a position as Crown Counsel in langauyika. The two appointees arc: Mr. Albert George Lowe, barrister and solicitor, of Auckland, appointed as Crown Counsel for Kenya. Mr. Lowe, who is 44 years of age. is a qualified barrister and solicitor with a loug experience in private practice. /Recently be was for three years secretary-legal adviser to the Government, of Tonga during part of which time he acted ns Chief Justice of the Kingdom. He enlisted in the R.N.Z.A.F. on the outbreak of war and reached the rank of squadron, leader. During his. service he had considerable experience as iudgc‘ advocate iu courtsmartial. Mr. Lowe is married and has two children. Mr. E. J. Haughey, M.A., LIM.. 8.C0m.. appointed a Crown Counsel in Tanganyika. Mr. Haughey is 3b years of age, 'has spent all bis professional life in the Public Service. At the present time he is office solicitor to the Native Department, ami has bad considerable experience in handling all types of Native legal problems. In 1929 he was awarded tlie Senior University Scholarship in Roman Law. Mr. Haughey volunteered for service overseas in 1940, but was rejected on medical grounds.
