Welfare Officers Active

Reports submitted by the welfare officers at a recent meeting of the welfare committee of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society showed that the activities of the Wellington branch were" still well to the fore. During the past month, 12 new cases were registered, 49 attendances at orthopaedic clinics had been arranged, and 160 visits hud been paid to homes, in addition to 89 visits paid to tlie office by mothers and children seeking informal ion and advice. The committee passed grants for surgical boots, an extended country holiday for a child very much below par, music lessons, and special speech training lessons. Arrangements were made for children to be enrolled with the Correspondence School, ami a correspondence school teacher was taken by the welfare officer to visit some of the children in their homes. Not only cases from Wellingtou were dealt with, but cases registered with other branches iu outlying districts were met, and taken to hospital for specialist treatment.

Proceeds for Sick and Wounded. A successful afternoon was held under the auspices of (lie I’aekakariki AS omen’s Institute recently, the proceeds being given to tlie local sick and wounded fund. Musical and elocutionary items were given by Mesdnmes Mackintosh, Skipper, Nye and Miss Holtom. Competitions were part of tlm progrannnc. The winners were Mesdatnes Ddwards and Little.
