Arrangements For Workers’ Holidays CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR PERIOD AVith the object of spreading holidays, many of which are being taken ill advance, over a longer period, and with a view to granting holidays _to as many watersiders as possible during the summer months, it has been decided by the Waterfront Control Commission that these, granted under the Holidays Act, shall commence as from Monday next, December 18, at all ports in New ZeaRepresentntives of the New Zealand AVaterside Employers' Association, of tue harbour boards, and of the local branch of the union at each .port, have met the AVatcrfront Controller of the Comm ssion’s representatives and agreed on the number of men who can be granted holiday leave from time to time. Directions have been issued by the AVatcrfront Control Commission for the working of ships . during the Christmas and New Year period. Day shift work is to cease at 9 p.m. on Friday, December 22, and be resumed at 8 a.m. on AVednesday, December 27. Night shift work will cease at 7. a.m. on Saturday, December 23, and be resumed at 11 p.m. on luesday» December 26. Day shift work will cease at 9 p.m. on Friday, December 29, and be resumed at 8 a.m. on lu'csday, January 2, except at Lyttelton, limaru, Otago and Napier, where January 2 is a prescribed holiday. AVork at those ports will be resumed at 8 a.m. on January 3. Night shift work will cease at < a.m. on December 30, and be resumed at U p.m.- on January 1, except at Lyttelton, Tiniaru, Otago and Napier, where work will be resumed at 11 pun. on January Specially urgent vessels (whether working shifts or otherwise) as may be determined by the AVaterfront Controller or Commission's representative, will be worked day shifts on December 24, 2b, and 31, and night shifts will resume at 11 p.m. on Monday, December 2a, and 11 p.m. on Monday, January 1, provided that by agreement between the employers and the local branch of the union, a variation of the above hours may be agreed on to meet special circumstances.
