TEMPEST FIGHTER
Details Now Released (Received October 19, 10 p.m.) LONDON, October 19. After a long period, on the secret list some details about the Tempest fighter can now.be revealed, says “The Times” aeronautical correspondent.
The Tempest, which was designed by Sydney Camm, is a single-seat, low-wing, cantilever monoplane, powered by a super-charged 2200 horsepower NapierSabre engine. It has a four-blade variable pitch airscrew, elliptical wings like the Spitfire and a high tail-fin rising from the fuselage in a curve similaY to that of the'Flying Fortress. It is very fast aud manoeuvreable. Its armament consists of four 120-milli-metre 'cannon in the wings. The wingspan is 41ft. and its length 33ft.
