AUSTRALIA’S WARTIME COSTS
CANBERRA, October 19.
The average rise in the war-time cost of living in the six Australian capital cities is 23.3 per cent. Figures issued today by the Commonwealth Statistician reveal that in the war period clothing costs have risen by 71.4 per cent., food by 12.6 per cent., miscellaneous items by 21.1 per cent., and rent 0.8 per cent. The Government claims that price control has been responsible for limiting the rise, which is said Io be among the lowest in the United Nations countries in the same period.
