COUNCIL OF WOMEN
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.! DUNEDIN, October 18. The Dominion conference of the National Council of Women opened this morning under the presidency of Miss M. G. Havelear, Christchurch. There was a large attendance of delegates from all parts of the Dominion, while also present was Mrs. Jessie Street, chairman of the Australian women’s commitLafly Newall, in a special, message, expressed regret at her inability to be present, concluding: “I join with you in your high hopes and in appreciation ot the infinite good which can, and must, result through Christian women, with their capable, clear thought, true hearts and strong conscience, coming together to help to solve their nation’s problems.” A civic reception preceded the conference.
