With some American correspondents saying that the invasion of the Philippines is imminent. General MacArthur’s aircraft are stepping up their attacks on the southern section of the islands. Long-range Lightning and Thunderbolt fighters making a low-level sweep north of Valencia, in Mindanao, on Monday morning had a field day. They caught a Japanese convoy on the road and destroyed 62 trucks and six staff cars. An enemy mounted cavalry troop ‘was. dispersed with heavy casualties. Airfields in the area were strafed.
