RUBBER WASTE
Holiday Collection By School Children
The co-operation of the Wellington Education Board is being sought by the National Council for the Reclamation of Waste in a scheme for utilizing the services of school pupils in the collection of used tyres and tubes. In a letter read at .yesterday’s meeting of the board, the council stated that bulk quantities ot old tyres aud tubes held had now been largely collected, but a further 1009 tons was urgently required during the next six months to keep the mills in full production ,24 hours daily. Education boards were being asked to encourage school children to collect used tyres during the summer vacation and as an inducement the council would offer each school the right of selecting names of any member of the fighting forces overseas to receive a 10/- parcel for each 12 tyres or 20 large tubes collected. The council would pay over a cheque for £lOOO to the National Patriotic Fund Board. With each parcel would be enclosed a printed slip, specially worded, indicating the name of the school and saying that the contents had been paid for through tlie efforts of pupils engaged in collecting waste rubber during their holidays. Tho board decided to approve of the scheme.
