Makara Hill Tunnel
Sir, —Mr. Appleton’s reference to putting a tunnel through, the Makara Hill and opening up the Makara Valley mentioned in your paper last week is an excellent suggestion and should not be passed over without consideration. This valley offers thousands of building sites within a short distance of the city if the hill was tunnelled, and would be nearer the city in distance than Tawa Flat and Lower Hutt. Makara appears to be a logical answer to a pressing need for more building sections. —I am, etc., TOWN BELT. Wellington, October 16.
