GOLDEN WEDDING

Mr. And Mrs. F. E. Davis

An enjoyable gathering was recently held in the social hall of Wesley Church, Wellington, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage of two exresidents of Dunedin, Mr. aud Mrs, F. E. Davis. The bridegroom is the third son of the late Benjamin and Dinah Davis, and the bride the fourth daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Trerise. All the parents were early settlers of Otago, the fathers having taken part in the gold rushes of Gabriel’s Gully and the Dunstan in the early ’sixties. Mr. and Mrs. Davis were married by the Rev. W. Ready, of the Dunedin Central Mission More than 100 guests, including relatives, were present, and items were given by Mr. Sail, Christchurch, Mrs. Gardiner and Miss Fathers, Wellington. Mr. Sanders being at the piano. Community singing and competitions for the younger guests were enjoyed. Many presents were received, including the wedding cake from from an old friend of the family, also humorous telegrams and letters, including a message from the mayor of Dunedin, Mr. Cameron. There were four daughters and four sous of the marriage, and there are 33 grandchildren and one great-grand-child. The eldest son, Frank, was killed in the last war, and a younger son, Norman, was accidentally killed in Auckland when on duty as a member of the Police Force. The four daughters present were Mrs. F. Bent, Khnndallah, Mrs. M. J. White, Dunedin, Mrs. 11. Simmons, Wellington, and Mrs. W. Bowie, New Plymouth. The only surviving son, Mr. W. Davis, Mosgiel, was unable to be present through illness.

Tripp, Wellington Suburban Nursing Division, Oriental Bay-Rosencatli branch of tbe Women's National Reserve, Mr. R. Greenwood and Mrs. Knapp.
