Messages From Overseas The following message has been received by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, from Lieut.-General Sir Oliver Leese, Commander of the Eighth Army, dated September 25:—“On the occasion of New Zealand Day I send you my best wishes. It is appropriate that your great-New Zealand Division should be leading the Eighth Army on this date. General Freyberg is making good progress." From M. Molotov, the following message has been received: “On the occasion of New Zealand's National Day I ask you in the name of the Government and peoples of the Soviet Union to transmit to the Government and people of New Zealand hearty congratulations and very best wishes. I express the confident hope tliat the friendly relations between our peoples established in the years of the war against our common enemy. Hitlerite Germany, will develop fruitfully during the post-war period as well .to the benefit of our countries and of all peaceloving peoples.” The Prime Minister has sent the following reply to M. Molotov: “On behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand I desire to express sincere appreciation for your message on our National Day. We, too, believe that the struggles and sufferings shared during the war years areai prelude to a period of fruitful co-operation between our two peoples. We in New Zealand will always admire the lighting capacity and the indomitable spirit of tile Soviet people and we will not forget their magnificent contribution to the winning of a free world.”
