NEW AIR LANDING IN GERMAN REAR

A German high command announcement, quoted by Berlin radio, says: "Allied paratroops have landed in our rear in central Holland and are making our offensive operations more difficult, but German tactical reserves were thrown in against these newly-landed troops, and either sealed them off or annihilated them.” The German news agency, quoting an official survey of the battle fronts, stated : "The remnants of the First British Airborne Division, squeezed into a very narrow space at Arnhem, are still offering stubborn resistance, but the area has been further smashed by concentric German artillery fire.” Earlier the news agency claimed that this division bad be.eu "completely liquidated.” The news agency said that the last remnants of 600 men surrendered this morning in a small village west of Arnhem, and added that the British previously surrendered all the wounded, numbering 1400.
