MARIST WIN AULD CUP IN SOCCER FINAL
In the final of the Soccer competition played at the Basin Reserve on Saturday Marist won the Auld Memorial Cup by beating Railways 3-0. Play at first wa« slow, but brightened up considerably toward the end of the first half. Marist proved themselves the faster players, Railways having many opportunities for scoring, but always missing. Marist s first score came after 25 minutes play, when Nunns made a fine run down the centre of the field. This was the only score in the first half. Early in the second half Irvine shot a goal which was very nearly saved by Fisher, the Railways goalkeeper, the ball slipping out of his hands into tlie net. Soon after, Thompson, who played soundly throughout the game, kicked Marist’s third- and last goal. A speedy pace was maintained till the final whistle but Railways did not score. The referee was Mr. Sanderson. , In the Venus Shield contest Watcfslde beat Technical Old Bovs 5-1, at Kilbirnle. Following a goal' by Traynor for Waterside, and one by Mazy for Technical, the half-time score was 1-all. In the second spell Waterside gained the upper hand and added another four goals to their score. Technical did not score again. I’ower Cup results:—Petone Technical Old Bovs beat Petone, -1-2, at Petone; Moera Stop Out beat Diamonds, 3-2, at Hutt; Seatoun beat Army by default. A match between Wellington B and Interhouse representatives, played at Kelburn, was won by the Wellington B team, 8-3.
