THE VICTORY LOAN

Last year the people of New Zealand were asked to subscribe £35,000,000 to the Third Liberty Loan. This year they are invited to make a still greater effort and subscribe £40,000,000. It is symbolic of its objective that it has been named the Victory Loan. Victory is no doubt in the air; the general sensing of its imminence has been fostered by the recent resounding events in the theatres of the war. It is for that very reason that our final efforts should represent the greatest possible weight of our resources in oidei that the combined blows of the Allies should be the heaviest and most crushing of the whole war, and victory made certain and completely decisive. So far, the public has responded well to every appeal for the strengthening of the sinews of war. The £35,000,000 Loan was a success. The new Victory Loan means just a little extra effoit to raise the mark to £40,000,000, and 'create a new record for this little country that has contributed so generously in the past. Like the Third Liberty Loan, the Victory Loan which opens today is essentially a people’s investment for the safeguarding of their interests, their security, their homes, and their future. The more widely over the country this is realized, the greater should be the spread of the loan investments. Every pound invested will be a form of saving, returning interest to the investor. "Even if this should mean some personal sacrifice, then character will be the gainer by the impulse imparted to the spirit of thrift.
